Jonathan India
Jonathan India On bench Friday
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 2:38 PM
India is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies.
Analysis: India made three straight starts after being activated from the injured list Tuesday, and he'll get a breather Friday. The second baseman went 3-for-10 with six strikeouts during those three starts. Michael Massey will play the keystone and bat seventh.
Stephen Kolek
Stephen Kolek Encouraging start with new team
Fri, Sep 12, 2025, 2:37 AM
Kolek didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Guardians, allowing one run on three hits and no walks in 6.2 innings. He struck out four.
Analysis: Kolek's Royals career is off to a promising start, as he's now fired at least six innings while conceding two runs or fewer in each of his first three starts for his new team. The three hits allowed matched a season low, and he's riding a streak of seven consecutive outings of at least five frames dating back to his time with San Diego. Kolek is next scheduled to take the mound for a key matchup against the Mariners. Through 99.1 innings, the right-hander owns a 3.71 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 67:28 K:BB.
John Schreiber
John Schreiber Saddled with loss, blown save
Thu, Sep 11, 2025, 10:49 PM
Schreiber (3-3) was charged with the loss and a blown save Thursday against the Guardians, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out one in 1.1 innings.
Analysis: It's the third time already this month that Schreiber has permitted two runs in an outing, giving him a ghastly 12.46 ERA through 4.1 innings in September. With closer Carlos Estevez leading MLB in saves, Schreiber has fallen quite far out of contention for save chances in most scenarios at this stage of the campaign. Across 58.1 innings, Schreiber has a 3.70 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 60:18 K:BB.
Adam Frazier
Adam Frazier Absent from lineup
Thu, Sep 11, 2025, 2:18 PM
Frazier is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Cleveland.
Analysis: Frazier has now started just two of the last five games and one of three contests since Jonathan India returned from the injured list. India will cover second base and Mike Yastrzemski will be in left field Thursday as Frazier begins the game on the bench.
Carlos Estevez
Carlos Estevez Locks down 39th save
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 9:45 PM
Estevez picked up the save in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Guardians, tossing a perfect ninth inning.
Analysis: Called upon in the ninth to protect a one-run lead, Estevez extended his scoreless streak to 10 appearances while converting his MLB-leading 39th save of the season. The veteran right-hander is now on the verge of becoming just the eighth Royal to ever reach the 40-save mark in a single campaign and the first since 2014. Estevez has been a model of consistency at the back end of Kansas City's bullpen, posting a 2.45 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 52:21 K:BB across 62.1 innings this year.
Cole Ragans
Cole Ragans Second rehab start set
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 6:18 PM
Ragans (shoulder) will make continue his rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Friday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The right-hander made his first rehab appearance with Omaha on Sunday and threw 45 pitches across three innings. Ragans will continue building up his workload Friday and could require another rehab start after that before being cleared to rejoin the Royals.
Mike Yastrzemski
Mike Yastrzemski Out for second straight vs. LHP
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 2:16 PM
Yastrzemski is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.
Analysis: For the second day in a row, the left-handed-hitting Yastrzemski will hit the bench while the Royals face off against another left-handed starting pitcher (Logan Allen). Kansas City will run out an outfield of Randal Grichuk, Kyle Isbel and Jac Caglianone from left to right Wednesday.
Michael Massey
Michael Massey Idle against lefty again
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 2:15 PM
Massey is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Massey will hit the bench for the second straight day while the Guardians send another lefty (Logan Allen) to the bump. Massey has played fairly regularly against right-handed pitching since he returned from the injured list Aug. 25, but he might have to settle for more of a part-time role after the Royals got Jonathan India back from the shelf Tuesday.
Hunter Harvey
Hunter Harvey Rehab slowing down
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 9:19 AM
Harvey (groin) threw a live batting practice session Saturday but experienced soreness afterward, which has slowed his rehab, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Harvey's rehab from a Grade 2 right adductor strain, which has sidelined him since Aug. 11, has seemingly hit a setback. Since he was traded to the Royals in July 2024, injuries have been a recurring issue, limiting Harvey to just 12 appearances this season -- all scoreless. It's unclear whether this latest snag will prevent him from returning before season's end or if he can still make it back with the big-league club.
Noah Cameron
Noah Cameron Loses pitching duel to Cantillo
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 8:52 AM
Cameron (7-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Guardians, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks while striking out eight in seven innings.
Analysis: Cameron was a tough-luck loser Tuesday after Joey Cantillo one-upped him with eight scoreless. Cameron couldn't shake Jose Ramirez, who homered off him in the first and later doubled and scored in the fourth. Cameron was able to avoid walks after tying his season high with five his last time out. He also tied a season high with eight strikeouts, his first time reaching that mark since July 13. Cameron has allowed three runs or fewer in five of his last six starts and lines up to complete a two-start week on the road versus the Phillies.
Bobby Witt Jr.
Bobby Witt Jr. Collects late hit
Wed, Sep 10, 2025, 8:46 AM
Witt went 1-for-4 in his return to the lineup Tuesday against the Guardians.
Analysis: The Royals managed just five hits in the game as they were blanked by the Guardians. Witt's base knock came in the ninth to put runners on the corners, but his team was unable to capitalize. Now that he's feeling better, Witt should be back to being a lineup fixture, especially with the Royals still clawing at a wild-card spot.
Jonathan Bowlan
Jonathan Bowlan Starting Wednesday
Tue, Sep 9, 2025, 8:49 PM
Bowlan will start Wednesday's game against the Guardians, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The Royals are seemingly going to rely on their bullpen to get through Wednesday's contest, and they'll start by sending out Bowlan for the first handful of outs. The 28-year-old owns a 3.57 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through 35.1 innings on the year and has five appearances of at least 2.0 innings, so there's a chance he remains in Wednesday's contest past the first frame before getting the hook.
Jonathan India
Jonathan India Making return from IL
Tue, Sep 9, 2025, 4:15 PM
The Royals reinstated India (wrist) from the 10-day injured list, and he's batting seventh as the designated hitter Tuesday against the Guardians.
Analysis: India hasn't seen the field since late August due to a wrist sprain, but he's back with the Royals for the second game of the series in Cleveland. It's been a disappointing campaign for the 29-year-old with a career-worst .666 OPS through 124 games, and he batted just .195 across 24 contests in August.
Michael Wacha
Michael Wacha Placed on concussion injured list
Tue, Sep 9, 2025, 4:07 PM
The Royals placed Wacha on the 7-day concussion injured list Tuesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Wacha was involved in a minor off-the-field incident and is headed back to Kansas City to be evaluated further. He had been scheduled to start Wednesday, but that will no longer happen. Wacha will be eligible to return as soon as Sept. 16 versus the Mariners, but it's unclear at this point whether he will be ready by that date. The Royals have not announced a replacement for Wacha on Wednesday.
Bobby Witt Jr.
Bobby Witt Jr. Returns to lineup Tuesday
Tue, Sep 9, 2025, 4:01 PM
Witt (back) will start at shortstop and bat second in Tuesday's game versus the Guardians.
Analysis: Witt missed the previous three contests with back spasms, but he's feeling well enough to return to action for the second game of a four-game set in Cleveland. The Royals went 1-2 in the three games Witt missed.
Stephen Kolek
Stephen Kolek Receiving another start
Tue, Sep 9, 2025, 2:13 PM
Kolek is slated to start Thursday's game against the Guardians at Progressive Field.
Analysis: With Seth Lugo (back) recently joining Cole Ragans (shoulder) on the injured list, Kolek will stick around with the Royals to make a second turn through the rotation following his call-up from Triple-A Omaha last Thursday. During his start in this past Saturday's 11-2 win over the Twins, Kolek went seven strong innings and struck four batters while permitting two earned runs on six hits and one walk. He now maintains a respectable 3.88 ERA over 92.2 innings between San Diego and Kansas City, though it's supported by a weak 9.3 K-BB%.
Steven Cruz
Steven Cruz Ready for rehab assignment
Tue, Sep 9, 2025, 11:09 AM
Cruz (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.
Analysis: Cruz has missed more than a month of action with right shoulder tendinitis but is ready to test things out in a game setting. As long as things go well, the righty reliever shouldn't require too many rehab outings before being reinstated from the 15-day injured list.
Ryan Bergert
Ryan Bergert Clobbered in loss
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 8:24 PM
Bergert (2-2) allowed eight runs on 11 hits and three walks over 3.1 innings to take the loss Monday against Cleveland. He struck out three.
Analysis: Despite not conceding a homer, Bergert was absolutely lit up in this 77-pitch appearance, coughing up eight runs and 11 hits -- both setting career worsts. The rookie right-hander completely unraveled in the fourth inning, when he gave up six runs on six hits before being relieved by Daniel Lynch. Thanks to this performance, Bergert's ERA ballooned from 2.61 to 3.48 across 72.1 total frames with the Royals and Padres. The 25-year-old projects for tough matchup in his next start, which is currently scheduled to come at Philadelphia this weekend.
Bobby Witt Jr.
Bobby Witt Jr. Remaining out of lineup
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 2:41 PM
Witt (back) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.
Analysis: Maikel Garcia will get the call at shortstop for the series opener while Witt takes a seat for the third day in a row as he continues to manage low back spasms. Per Anne Rogers of MLB.com, Witt said his back felt "better" after he took part in some running and fielding work earlier Monday, and he plans to wait and see how he responds to those activities before potentially taking some swings Tuesday. The Royals are still viewing Witt as day-to-day and seem optimistic that he'll avoid a stint on the injured list.
Cole Ragans
Cole Ragans Goes three innings in rehab start
Mon, Sep 8, 2025, 8:54 AM
Ragans (shoulder) struck out seven and allowed one earned run on two hits and one walk across three innings in a rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Omaha.
Analysis: Pitching in a game setting for the first time since June 5, Ragans had been expected to cover just two frames Sunday, but he ended up tacking on an extra inning to his workload after retiring six of the first seven batters he faced. Ultimately, Ragans tossed 45 pitches (34 strikes) in the rehab start, inducing 12 swings and misses while flashing a fastball that sat around 95 miles per hour. Ragans will likely need two more rehab outings to build his pitch count up to a typical starter's workload, though it's possible the Royals pull him off the minor-league assignment earlier than that if they're content with him making an abbreviated start or two in the big leagues upon his return from the 60-day injured list.
