Michael Lorenzen
Michael Lorenzen Allows two homers in loss
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 4:27 PM
Lorenzen (4-8) took the loss against the Rays on Thursday, allowing four runs on eight hits and no walks with four strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
Analysis: Lorenzen was on track for a quality start before giving up back-to-back solo homers in the sixth inning. While the 33-year-old didn't issue a walk for the first time in eight starts, he's now surrendered 16 home runs across 16 outings this season. He'll carry a 4.91 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 73:28 K:BB over 88 innings into a road matchup with the Mariners next week.
Kyle Isbel
Kyle Isbel Not in Thursday's lineup
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 9:48 AM
Isbel is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Rays.
Analysis: It's a routine day off for Isbel, who started each of the previous three tilts. Drew Waters is covering center field and batting ninth for the Royals on Thursday.
Salvador Perez
Salvador Perez Rare breather Thursday
Thu, Jun 26, 2025, 9:45 AM
Perez is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: It's the first day off in more than a month for Perez, who has gone 1-for-8 at the plate in the first two games of the series. Freddy Fermin is catching and batting eighth for the Royals in Thursday's series finale.
Drew Waters
Drew Waters Sitting after three straight starts
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 4:44 PM
Waters is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: Jac Caglianone and Kyle Isbel appear to be locked into near-everyday roles in right field and center field, respectively, but left field still looks to be more of a revolving door for Kansas City. Waters had been included in the lineup in the last three games and started in left field in the most recent two contests, but he'll give way to John Rave on Wednesday. Dating back to the start of June, Waters has slashed just .188/.250/.188 with one stolen base, four runs and one RBI over a stretch of 19 games.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Sitting for third time in four games
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 4:39 PM
Fermin is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.
Analysis: Fermin's playing time had been trending up toward the end of last week, but he'll be on the bench Wednesday for the third time in four games. Due to the Royals' willingness to keep top backstop Salvador Perez fresh by occasionally using him at designated hitter and first base, Fermin should start more frequently than most No. 2 catchers, though probably not enough to make him a usable option in the majority of fantasy leagues.
Kris Bubic
Kris Bubic Fans eight in loss
Tue, Jun 24, 2025, 10:41 PM
Bubic (6-5) yielded four runs (two earned) on eight hits over six innings Tuesday, striking out eight and taking a loss against the Rays.
Analysis: Bubic coughed up a two-run homer to Danny Jansen in the second inning. The Rays later plated unearned runs in the fourth and fifth frames. Bubic has posted a 14:1 K:BB over his last two outings after walking four batters against the Yankees on June 11. However, he's given up 10 earned runs in his last three starts after giving up only seven runs in his previous eight outings. Bubic still owns a terrific 2.18 ERA and a 96:27 K:BB through 91 frames. He's currently slated for a tough home matchup against the Dodgers this weekend.
Michael Massey
Michael Massey Starting rehab assignment
Tue, Jun 24, 2025, 2:07 PM
Massey (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.
Analysis: Massey has been shelved for the past two weeks with a sprained left ankle but is ready to test things out in a game setting. The 27-year-old is slashing a lowly .202/.221/.258 this season and had seen his playing time wane before getting hurt.
Kyle Wright
Kyle Wright Activated and optioned
Mon, Jun 23, 2025, 1:54 PM
The Royals activated Wright (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Omaha.
Analysis: Wright appears to be back to full health, but the Royals were unwilling to clear a spot for him on the 26-man active roster after he turned in a 5.48 ERA and 21:14 K:BB over 23 innings across eight rehab starts between Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas. The right-hander hasn't pitched at the big-league level since undergoing right shoulder surgery in October 2023. He covered three innings in his most recent outing for Omaha on Saturday, and Wright could continue to get stretched out as a starter while he sticks around at Triple-A.
Salvador Perez
Salvador Perez Slugs ninth homer
Sun, Jun 22, 2025, 7:03 PM
Perez went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Padres.
Analysis: The Kansas City veteran started at designated hitter and notched his 282nd career homer with a 412-foot long ball off San Diego starter Randy Vasquez in the sixth inning. This marks Perez's fifth homer of the month, as he's been productive in June with a .280 average (21-for-75), 14 RBI and seven runs scored across 19 games. Overall, the 35-year-old is slashing .235/.277/.394 with 41 RBI and 19 runs scored through 308 plate appearances.
Seth Lugo
Seth Lugo Superb in no-decision
Sun, Jun 22, 2025, 6:55 PM
Lugo did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 3-2 loss at San Diego, allowing one run on two hits and no walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out seven.
Analysis: The veteran right-hander looked sharp against one of his former clubs, generating a solid 14 whiffs out of his 90 total pitches to secure his eighth quality start. The only blemish on Lugo's line came when he stranded Jackson Merrill upon his departure and reliever Angel Zerpa subsequently allowed the runner to score. Lugo now sports a 2.93 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 68:23 K:BB through 83 total innings. He lines up for a difficult test in his next appearance, currently scheduled to be against the Dodgers at home next weekend.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Playing time on upswing
Sun, Jun 22, 2025, 3:24 PM
Fermin will start at catcher and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Padres.
Analysis: Fermin will pick up his fourth start in five games and could hold down a semi-regular spot in the lineup while the Royals have been using Salvador Perez more frequently at first base and designated hitter of late. During the past month, Fermin hit .273 over a stretch of 15 games, but he provided limited counting statistics (one home run, no stolen bases, four runs, two RBI).
Kyle Wright
Kyle Wright Struggles in rehab start
Sun, Jun 22, 2025, 11:02 AM
Wright (shoulder) allowed four runs on four hits and three walks over three innings in Saturday's rehab start with Triple-A Omaha. He struck out three.
Analysis: Wright made his eighth rehab appearance Saturday, and his sixth since resuming activity following a pause due to shoulder fatigue. After tossing four scoreless innings in his previous outing June 15, the right-hander struggled this time out, battling command issues and surrendering a home run. With his 30-day rehab window set to expire June 24, Kansas City will have to activate him soon. However, Wright hasn't pitched in the majors since 2023 with Atlanta, lacks a clear path to a rotation spot and hasn't thrown more than four innings in any rehab outing, strongly suggesting he's ticketed for a long-relief role with the Royals if he isn't optioned to Triple-A Omaha after his rehab stint ends.
Noah Cameron
Noah Cameron Decent in loss
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 10:27 PM
Cameron (2-3) allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two over 5.1 innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Padres.
Analysis: Cameron allowed a run in each of the second and third innings, but he exited down 2-1 in the sixth. This is just the second time in eight outings he's given up multiple runs, though both of those instances have been in his last three starts. He wasn't going to be purely dominant forever, and there's little reason to be concerned about his performance, though the two strikeouts Saturday matched his season low. The 25-year-old has a 2.08 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 34:15 K:BB through 47.2 innings over eight starts. Cameron is tentatively projected for a tough home start versus the Dodgers in his next outing.
Kyle Isbel
Kyle Isbel Resting Saturday
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 3:11 PM
Isbel isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Padres.
Analysis: After going 1-for-14 across his last four games, Isbel will take a seat Saturday while Drew Waters starts in center field and bats eighth.
Nick Loftin
Nick Loftin Getting rest Saturday
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 3:08 PM
Loftin isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game versus San Diego.
Analysis: Loftin will retreat to the bench after going 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored during Friday's win. His absence will allow John Rave to pick up a start in left field while batting ninth.
Rich Hill
Rich Hill Struggles in loss Friday
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 2:36 PM
Hill (3-1) took the loss Friday against Durham, allowing five runs on five hits and five walks across five innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: Hill turned in his roughest outing at Triple-A Omaha in four starts at the level, struggling with command and surrendering frequent hard contact. The 45-year-old now holds a 4.34 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over six starts and 29 innings between the Arizona Complex League and Triple-A this season. The veteran southpaw had a June 15 opt-out clause but chose to remain with the Royals organization. However, should a major-league offer come his way from another team, the Royals "will not stand in his way," Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Jonathan India
Jonathan India Resumes June surge
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 9:37 AM
India went 3-for-5 with a double and a three-run home run in Friday's 6-5 win over the Padres.
Analysis: His fifth-inning shot off Nick Pivetta gave the Royals a 4-0 lead. It was India's fourth homer of the season, and three of them have come in his last 15 games -- a stretch in which the 28-year-old super-utility player is slashing .279/.308/.475 with nine RBI and 10 runs despite suffering a partial shoulder dislocation a week ago.
Carlos Estevez
Carlos Estevez Secures 22nd save
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 9:33 AM
Estevez gave up a run on one hit in the ninth inning Friday to record his 22nd save of the season in a 6-5 win over the Padres.
Analysis: A Manny Machado solo shot to lead off the ninth made things nervous for the Royals, but Estevez shook it off and got infield pop-ups from the next three batters. The 32-year-old righty now leads the majors in saves, converting six of seven chances in June while posting a 3.24 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 5:4 K:BB over 8.1 innings.
Michael Lorenzen
Michael Lorenzen Settles for no-decision Friday
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 9:30 AM
Lorenzen came away with a no-decision in Friday's 6-5 win over the Padres, giving up two runs on five hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.
Analysis: The right-hander left the mound after 89 pitches (60 strikes) with the Royals ahead 4-2, but Lucas Erceg coughed up the lead in the seventh inning to deny Lorenzen his fifth win. Lorenzen's control has been shaky of late, and he's issued multiple free passes in four of his last five starts, posting a brutal 7.20 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 19:12 K:BB in 25 innings over that span. He'll try to tighten things up in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Rays.
Sam Long
Sam Long Returns from IL
Fri, Jun 20, 2025, 10:27 AM
The Royals activated Long (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Friday.
Analysis: Long has been sidelined since mid-April with left elbow inflammation but has been cleared to return after making 12 rehab appearances. The southpaw held a 12.86 ERA before going on the IL and a 9.90 ERA on his rehab assignment, so Long will likely be used in low-leverage spots initially.
