Adam Frazier
Adam Frazier Heading back to Kansas City
Wed, Jul 16, 2025, 9:39 AM
The Royals acquired Frazier from the Pirates on Wednesday in exchange for infielder Cam Devanney, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Analysis: Frazier spent the 2024 season in Kansas City and evidently made a positive impression despite slashing just .202/.282/.294 over 104 contests. The 33-year-old hasn't been much better in 2025 with a .255/.318/.336 batting line, but he offers some versatility and could see reps at second base and/or in left field against right-handed pitching.
Michael Lorenzen
Michael Lorenzen Lands on IL with oblique strain
Mon, Jul 14, 2025, 12:33 PM
The Royals placed Lorenzen on the 15-day injured list Monday with a left oblique strain.
Analysis: Lorenzen had to be scratched from his final scheduled first-half start over the weekend due to what was referred to as an illness at the time, but it's an oblique strain that lands him on the IL. The right-hander will be eligible for activation July 26, but it's too soon to know whether he will be ready at that time. Lorenzen finished the first half with a 4.61 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP over 99.2 innings.
Carlos Estevez
Carlos Estevez Blows save, earns win
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 9:04 PM
Estevez (4-2) allowed two runs on two hits over one inning Sunday. He earned a win against the Mets but was also charged with a blown save.
Analysis: Estevez blew a 2-0 lead in the ninth inning but earned his fourth win of the season after Nick Loftin's walk-off single. Estevez had converted eight straight save chances before the weekend series against the Mets, where he was charged with a blown save in each of his two appearances. Despite that, he owns an impressive 2.36 ERA and a 35:15 K:BB across 42 innings while securing 25 saves in 30 chances.
Noah Cameron
Noah Cameron Punches out eight
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 8:58 PM
Cameron did not factor in the decision during Sunday's win over the Mets. He allowed seven hits and two walks over 6.2 shutout frames while striking out eight.
Analysis: Cameron worked around a few jams with the help of two double plays and matched his career high of eight punchouts. He generated 16 whiffs after producing 17 in his last outing; Cameron totaled just 19 swinging strikes over his previous three starts. He coughed up six runs against the Yankees on June 10 and five runs against the Dodgers on June 27. He's given up two or fewer runs in each of his 10 outings aside from those two hiccups. Cameron owns a terrific 2.31 ERA with a 58:22 K:BB over 70 innings.
John Rave
John Rave Gaining traction in lineup
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 1:06 PM
Rave will start in left field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: The Royals will include Rave in the lineup for a fifth straight matchup with a right-handed starting pitcher, in this case Clay Holmes. Despite the recent uptick in playing time, Rave has been unable to capitalize on the opportunity, slashing just .136/.269/.136 with no extra-base hits and one stolen base so far in July.
Nick Loftin
Nick Loftin Resting for series finale
Sun, Jul 13, 2025, 1:03 PM
Loftin is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: Though Loftin will take a seat for the Royals' final game of the first half, he appears to have gained some stability in the lineup. He started each of the prior seven games -- three in left field, three at second base and one at third base -- while going 6-for-25 with two home runs, a double, five RBI and three runs.
Jonathan Bowlan
Jonathan Bowlan Takes loss Saturday
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 6:28 PM
Bowlan (1-2) allowed two runs on four hits and struck out four without walking a batter over three innings to take the loss versus the Mets on Saturday.
Analysis: Michael Lorenzen (illness) was scratched from Saturday's start, leading to an impromptu bullpen game for the Royals. Bowlan followed opener Angel Zerpa, and it was a Juan Soto two-run home run that did Bowlan in during this low-scoring 3-1 loss. Bowlan has allowed three runs over four innings during his current stint in the majors. He's at a 3.79 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB over 19 innings across 14 relief appearances this season.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Sitting down Saturday
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 12:40 PM
Fermin isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game versus the Mets.
Analysis: Fermin will sit down for the fourth time in five games after making five consecutive starts earlier in the month. Salvador Perez will serve as Kansas City's catcher while Jonathan India gets a turn as the DH.
Angel Zerpa
Angel Zerpa Starting Saturday's contest
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 12:29 PM
Zerpa will start Saturday's game against the Mets.
Analysis: Zerpa will take the mound in the first inning on short notice, as original starter Michael Lorenzen was scratched due to an illness. Zerpa owns a 3.89 ERA and 1.32 WHIP through 39.1 innings this season, though he likely won't remain in the game for more than an inning or two before turning the game over to Kansas City's bullpen.
Michael Lorenzen
Michael Lorenzen Scratched from start
Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 12:26 PM
Lorenzen was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Mets due to an illness.
Analysis: Lorenzen's illness will put an early end to his first half, and he'll carry a 4.61 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP through 99.2 innings into the All-Star break. While he recovers, Angel Zerpa will start on the mound Saturday in what is likely to be a bullpen game for the Royals.
Kyle Isbel
Kyle Isbel Resting against lefty
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 5:10 PM
Isbel is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
Analysis: The left-handed-hitting Isbel will take a seat for the series finale while the Pirates send left-hander Bailey Falter to the bump. Tyler Tolbert will pick up the start in center field in place of Isbel, who has gone 3-for-24 with two runs and two RBI through his first seven games of July.
Dallas Keuchel
Dallas Keuchel Inks minor-league deal with Royals
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 9:48 AM
The Royals signed Keuchel to a minor-league contract Wednesday.
Analysis: Per Jeff Passan of ESPN.com, Keuchel held a workout for teams last week and touched 92 miles per hour with his fastball. He will be assigned to Triple-A Omaha and would make a prorated $2 million if called up by Kansas City. The 37-year-old Keuchel posted a 5.40 ERA in four starts for the Brewers last season before finishing the campaign pitching in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball with the Chiba Lotte Marines.
Hunter Harvey
Hunter Harvey Continuing mound work
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 8:31 AM
Harvey (shoulder) resumed throwing off a mound at the end of June, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Working his way back from a right teres major strain, Harvey is continuing with his throwing progression at the Royals' spring training complex in Arizona. A rehab assignment would seem to be around the corner. Harvey has been shelved since mid-April.
Michael Massey
Michael Massey Nursing hairline fracture
Wed, Jul 9, 2025, 8:28 AM
Massey (ankle) has been diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his right wrist as a result of a hit-by-pitch during a June 29 rehab game at Triple-A Omaha, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: Massey landed on the 10-day injured list in early June with a left ankle sprain but suffered a new injury during his fifth rehab contest. He is expected to resume swinging a bat in a few days and will continue a progression based on pain tolerance. Massey was slashing just .202/.221/.258 for the Royals before getting hurt last month.
Seth Lugo
Seth Lugo Delivers quality start
Tue, Jul 8, 2025, 9:36 PM
Lugo did not factor in the decision during Tuesday's win over Pittsburgh. He allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five over six-plus frames.
Analysis: Both runs against Lugo came via solo home runs; Oneil Cruz went deep in the fourth inning, and Nick Gonzales popped a home run to begin the seventh, knocking Lugo out of the contest. Lugo threw 47 of 82 pitches for strikes Tuesday and generated just four whiffs. He is 3-0 with a 1.54 ERA over his last seven outings and hasn't given up more than two runs in an outing since May 30. Lugo will enter the All-Star break with a 2.67 ERA and an 88:31 K:BB through 101 innings.
Carlos Estevez
Carlos Estevez Earns third win
Tue, Jul 8, 2025, 9:23 PM
Estevez (3-2) earned a win against Pittsburgh on Tuesday. He allowed a hit in a scoreless inning and did not record a strikeout.
Analysis: Estevez worked around a one-out double by Ke'Bryan Hayes to keep the score 3-3 before the Royals walked it off in the bottom of the ninth inning. It was Estevez's first win since May 25, and he has thrown two shutout frames since allowing a run against Seattle on July 3. He dropped his ERA to 2.67 with a 32:14 K:BB across 39 frames.
Nick Loftin
Nick Loftin Homers again Tuesday
Tue, Jul 8, 2025, 9:05 PM
Loftin went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's win over the Pirates.
Analysis: Loftin snapped a 21-game homerless drought Monday before going deep again in the seventh inning of Tuesday's contest. He also drove in a run with his walk-off single in the ninth. Loftin went 8-for-56 (.143) during his home run drought but has produced back-to-back multi-hit games, bringing his season slash line to .202/.244/.405 through 90 plate appearances.
Cole Ragans
Cole Ragans Transferred to 60-day IL
Tue, Jul 8, 2025, 2:27 PM
The Royals transferred Ragans (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
Analysis: Ragans had been scheduled to resume a throwing program Monday, but it's going to take him a while to get built back up after he was shut down for nearly a month with a left rotator cuff strain. He is now not eligible to return until early August.
Mark Canha
Mark Canha Lands on IL with elbow injury
Tue, Jul 8, 2025, 2:11 PM
The Royals placed Canha on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with left elbow epicondylitis.
Analysis: Epicondylitis is the formal diagnosis of "tennis elbow," and it's not clear how long the injury might sideline Canha. Cam Devanney has taken Canha's spot on the roster.
Freddy Fermin
Freddy Fermin Resting up Monday
Mon, Jul 7, 2025, 2:31 PM
Fermin is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.
Analysis: Fermin will take a seat for the series opener versus Pittsburgh after he had started in each of the Royals' last five games, catching in four of them. Salvador Perez will get a turn behind the plate Monday while Mark Canha enters the lineup as Kansas City's designated hitter.
